Ursus Alaska Owner and Operator Sam Schimmel
Based in Kenai, Alaska, Sam Schimmel is a Stanford University political science graduate who co-owns and serves as operator of Ursus Alaska, LLC, since establishing the adventure/eco-tourism business in 2018. He has played a driving role in growing its client portfolio to more than 300. In addition, he has successfully negotiated a number of contracts with regional air carriers and tribal governments while navigating the complexities of the United States Park Service’s and the state of Alaska’s commercial operation permitting processes. In addition to managing Ursus Alaska’s operations and the company’s website, Stanford graduate Sam Schimmel is pursuing a law degree at the Georgetown University Law Center and works as a law clerk for the Alaska Native Justice Center in Anchorage.
Mr. Schimmel has spent time with a number of local and professional organizations. His roles include board member with The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's Tribal Youth Resource Center, climate action task-force member with the National Congress of American Indians, and advisory board member with the Center for Native American Youth in Washington, DC.
